Hello Ranger Leaders and Friends;
We heard lots of exciting news at the Royal Rangers National Council. You can read all about it on the National Royal Rangers webpage at: http://royalrangers.ag.org/. Watch the message from Commander Doug Marsh, read his note and download and read the "Seek and Save" articles from farther down that page. Once you have read the articles, please access the new QLC survey and give your feedback.
I am convinced that the best days of the Royal Rangers ministry are just ahead of us! Many of the concerns I've heard expressed are being addressed. God definitely gave us the right man as our National Commander!! Our vision is to influence more boys and young men than ever, more effectively than ever!
Your Sectional Commander will also be contacting you to give further updates; so be on the lookout for that too.
Please read the Seek and Save articles before forming an opinion, but I did want to mention a few specific items. Also keep in mind that these changes were built around lots of prayer and the input received through the QLC surveys.
Read about making merits interactive; then take some time to put the pencils down during your meetings. :-)
Leadership Training is also being streamlined. Read Perry's article. We trained him well, at least we'll let everyone think we had something to do with it. :-)
Several methods and options are being developed to allow the Royal Rangers ministry to operate in any size church. Even how you obtain curriculum materials is being reviewed.
High Adventure will be changed to Rangers Now, with separate editions for each age group.
As you know, the Light-for-the-Lost Junior Councilmen program has gone away. New Missions merits will be developed to replace the current LFTL merits. We are focusing our Ranger Kids and Discovery Rangers missions on BGMC. Our Adventure and Expedition Rangers will focus on Speed-the-Light. Look for the exciting projects in the Seek and Save articles!
There will be new uniform options. Every church will be able to find something that works for them.
2012 will be the 50th anniversary of Royal Rangers. Because of that fact, and all the work that needs to take place in the next two years; the decision has been made to move the 2010 National Camporama to 2012.
There will be 18 new Junior Leadership merits developed, six each for Discovery, Adventure, and Expedition Rangers. Other areas of Junior Leadership training will also be beefed up. Moving to a true boy-led, adult facilitated ministry is one of the major goals facilitating these changes. Steve Schultz will be heading up this project.
Steve has also been responsible for Ranger of the Year. Ranger of the Year takes up about a 1/4 of Steve's time. Because we really need Steve to focus on Junior Leadership issues for the next few years, there will be changes in Ranger of the Year too. Royal Ranger of the Year will proceed as normal this year. After that, there will be a five year break for Ranger of the Year above the outpost level. The plans are to revitalize Ranger of the Year as a scholarship program.
This is not the entire list, just a few highlights.
I realize some of these changes will excite you positively, but that simply reading some of them here may excite you the other way. Please, please, please, take time to read the Seek and Save articles with an open mind, then pray about it, then decide how you feel. Also, continue to monitior the national website as more information will be posted in the coming weeks!
Another exciting piece of news.. One of our missionaries, Ed Dalbello, attended National Council with us. He is helping to translate Royal Rangers materials into Portuguese, so we can extend the Royal Rangers ministry into countries like Brazil. This is really exciting!! It is a tremendous opportunity to reach a new group of young men for Jesus!! Bro Dalbello is currently living in Jackson while he is raising funds to go back to the field; so he is also looking for opportunities to present his ministry. His e-mail address is ed.dalbello@agmd.org.
Thank you & God bless,
Derek
